Find out why it’s so hard to lose weight

Hello girls, it’s Laetitia!

I thought this article might really speak to a lot of us. If, like me, you’ve tried repeated diets, followed strict eating plans, or tried every type of exercise possible, but the scales seem to remain on the defensive, then stick with me. I’m going to share with you some essential keys to understanding what may be holding you back from losing weight, while remaining kind to yourself.

And believe me, we’re going to approach this like a discussion between girlfriends, with simple explanations and concrete ideas. Are you ready?

The common reasons behind your blockages

We often tend to think that if we don’t lose weight, it’s because we’re not trying hard enough. But let me tell you something important: you mustn’t feel guilty. Very often, the obstacles are invisible or poorly understood. Here are a few suggestions:

1. Yo-yo dieting has depleted your metabolism

Ah, diets! They promise so much, but often, after a quick loss, the pounds come back with a vengeance. And why is that? Because these extreme diets tire out your metabolism.

When we drastically restrict calories, our body goes into ‘survival’ mode. The result: it burns less energy and stores more at the slightest deviation. This vicious circle is one of the main causes of stagnation.

My solution: Forget restrictive diets. Learn to eat a balanced diet, with portions adapted to your needs. Little by little, your metabolism will regain confidence.

2. Hormones can work against you

It’s a point we all too often forget, but our hormones have a huge influence on our weight. For example:

  • Thyroid: An under-regulated thyroid can slow down your metabolism.
  • Cortisol: If you’re often stressed, this notorious ‘stress hormone’ can lead to weight gain, particularly in the stomach area.
  • Hormonal variations: Contraception, pregnancy and the menopause change our bodies and sometimes make it harder to lose weight.

My solution: If you suspect a hormonal imbalance, don’t hesitate to consult a health professional. For my part, I’ve learnt to listen to my body, especially with the upheavals of the menopause, and that’s changed everything.

3. You’re not getting enough sleep

I know that with our busy lives, sleep can sometimes take a back seat. But it’s crucial to maintaining a balanced weight.

A lack of sleep increases the production of ghrelin (the hunger hormone) and decreases leptin (the hormone that regulates appetite). In other words, the less sleep you get, the hungrier you get and the harder it is to control your cravings.

My solution: Make sleep a priority. Even if it’s easier said than done, try to create a relaxing routine before bed: herbal tea, reading, or a few minutes of meditation.

Vous ne dormez pas assez

4. You underestimate the impact of stress

We all have days when everything seems to go wrong: work, home, children… This chronic stress can block weight loss by encouraging fat storage.

💡 My solution: Give yourself moments to breathe. It could be a walk, a yoga session, or even 10 minutes of deep breathing. These little breaks are essential for regaining balance.

The role of food in weight loss

As you already know, what we put on our plates plays a key role. But it’s not just a question of eating “light” or “healthy”: above all, you need to eat intelligently.

1. Mindful eating

How often do you find yourself snacking in front of the TV without even realising what you’re eating? I’ve done it hundreds of times.

Mindful eating means taking the time to savour each mouthful, listening to your body, and stopping when you’re full.

2. Focus on the right nutrients

Here are the basics for a balanced diet:

  • Lean proteins: These help maintain muscle mass and increase satiety. Think chicken, eggs, tofu or pulses.
  • The right fats: Avocados, nuts and omega-3-rich oils are your allies for stable energy.
  • Fibre: Slows digestion and prevents cravings. Fruit, vegetables and wholegrain cereals are your best friends.

What if physical activity became your pleasure?

We often talk about sport as an obligation. But in reality, it’s a time just for us, to get moving and feel alive.

You don’t have to work yourself to death. Here are a few simple ideas you can incorporate into your daily routine:

  • Dance in your living room: There’s nothing like a lively playlist to get you going.
  • Do short but intense sessions: 15 to 20 minutes of HIIT is often enough to get the machine going again.
  • Get moving throughout the day: Climb the stairs, walk when you’re on the phone, or do a few squats while dinner is cooking.
Et si l’activité physique devenait votre alliée plaisir ?

Svelt’Ease: a helping hand to boost your efforts

I couldn’t write this article without telling you about ultrasound, a technology I’ve adopted for its effectiveness. They target deep fat, where it is often difficult to act with sport alone…

Combined with a balanced diet and a bit of physical activity, it’s a gentle yet effective way of sculpting your figure.

The keys to staying motivated

I know how difficult it can be to stay on course. But here’s what helped me:

  1. Set realistic goals: You don’t have to want to lose 10 kg in a month. One kilo a month is already a lot!
  2. Celebrate every little victory: buy yourself some cool sportswear or give yourself a present after a week’s hard work.
  3. Surround yourself with a community: Talk to friends and family about your goals or join online groups to share ideas and motivate each other.

In a nutshell: Why it’s difficult, but not impossible

Losing weight is a road full of pitfalls, but it’s also full of small successes. Understanding why you’re having trouble losing weight is already a giant step forward.

So be gentle with yourself. Take each day as a new opportunity to move forward, even if it’s just a small step. And above all, never forget that you deserve to feel good about yourself.

Find out how Svelt’Ease can help you take your physical transformation one step further with ultrasound technology.
